Ha'aretz does criticize Zionist and Israeli operations but also censors its output. The Hebrew version is more to the point. The English of it is toned down. That was the view being put by various lonely voices. This one appears rather more authoritative.

Ha'aretz
Ha'aretz is a leading Israeli newspaper. Its main edition, published in Hebrew, frequently contains articles that are critical of Israeli policies. It also publishes an English-language edition (whose editor in 2006 is Adar Primor) whose content overlaps with, but is not identical to, the Hebrew edition.
According to many writers who can read the Hebrew edition, articles treating the more sensitive issues which appear in the Hebrew edition are absent from the English edition. (See, for example, Ran HaCohen's article entitled Looking Behind Ha'aretz's Liberal Image . See, also, this article, which was published in the Hebrew edition, but not in the English edition.)
