A Russian airliner full of tourists took off from Egypt then crashed in the Sinai Desert after a bomb went off on 31 October 2015. It was put under Seat 30A or 31A. It is said to the equivalent of 2 pounds of TNT. 224 died as a result. It will have been put there by a cleaner or other ground staff; an Islamic trouble maker, who caused a major fuss. Cameron stopped people flying back to England while Vladimir Putin did much the same.
One result, is that far fewer tourists will be going to there. The cost to the Egyptian tourist industry will be millions or even billions. Their government is well aware of this possibility which is why security in Cairo fairly good. Hotels have road blocks to keep car bombs out. There is firepower round the Presidential Palace & museum. The major beneficiaries are the Sinai Insurgents who are at war with the Egyptian authorities.
The idea that home made explosive would be as strong as commercial products is self-evidently absurd as is the claim that the bomb was in a normal aluminium drink can. The Daily Mail does tell us how it would have been done - see The Bomb.
