Unite

Unite is a trade union operating in England as well as foreign parts. Its chief of staff is Andrew Murray a Marxist Apparatchik - see e.g. Private Eye 1403/13 on the point. It gave one of theirs, Derek Simpson a rather handsome bung, one of better than £500,000. A lot of honest Working Men were not amused.

Andrew Murray, via the Unite union, is planning to take control of how the Labour party selects its MPs. He wants to have a hand in the drafting of the next election manifesto. He wants to begin to exert his control of Labour’s constituency parties. He will continue to keep a tight rain on Labour’s purse strings and a keen eye on how it selects its leader.

Of course, people tried to do this once before; during Labour’s wilderness years of the 1980s. Back then it was the trade unions that stopped them. But it’s unclear who will stop them now.
