This case study of Alison Levitt gives some indication of the character of those who run the country, the Establishment. The embarrassing revelation by the CPS will put fresh pressure on Director of Public Prosecutions, Alison Saunders, who has insisted [ stated/claimed/alleged/pretended/whatever ] no one is wrongly behind bars because of disclosure failures.

The true scale of the problem was quietly slipped out in the House of Lords earlier this month. Former Attorney-General Lord Morris asked how many rape trials had been discontinued because of a failure to disclose evidence.

William Clegg QC, defending, also said she had asked to have access to court papers.
