The Golden Dawn is alleged to be a Right Wing extremist party in Greece. In fact Far Right is a propaganda term used by communists. The Golden Dawn is hated by the people who write for The Guardian, the wonderful paper that chose not to publish what their reporter told them about Joe Stalin murdering millions in the Ukraine by starving them to death. Murder matters? It depends on who is doing what to whom as Lenin used to say. He knew a thing or two about wholesale murder. He liked it. See Winter in Moscow on the point
The Guardian chooses to allege that the Golden Dawn is helping people who are victims of illegal immigrants, people who are starving in Greece this very day. I am prepared to believe them. The Guardian thinks it is disgusting. Quite why that should be is not really explained. Recall that the communists tried to take over Greece in 1944. They failed which is why Athens 1944 is one of the Parachute Regiment's battle honours.

QUOTE
Golden Dawn is a right-wing extremist political organization in Greece. It is led by Nikolaos Michaloliakos and has grown exponentially since its inception to a widely known Greek political party with nationwide support.Scholars and media describe it as neo-Nazi and fascist, although the group rejects these labels. They have used Nazi symbolism and praised figures of Nazi Germany in the past. According to academic sources, the group is racist and xenophobic, while the party's leader has openly identified it as nationalist and racist.
Michaloliakos began the foundations of what would become Golden Dawn in 1980. It first received widespread attention in 1991, and in 1993 registered as a political party. It temporarily ceased political operations in 2005 and was absorbed by the Patriotic Alliance. The Alliance in turn ceased operations after Michaloliakos withdrew support. In March 2007, Golden Dawn held its sixth congress, where Party officials announced the resumption of political activism. At local elections on November 7, 2010 Golden Dawn got 5.3 percent of the vote in the municipality of Athens, winning a seat at the City Council. In some neighbourhoods with large immigrant communities it even reached 20 percent.
The party ran a campaign during the Greek national elections of 2012 based on concerns for unemployment, austerity and the economy, as well as virulent anti-immigration rhetoric, which gained a large increase in support from the Greek electorate. It received seven percent of the popular vote, enough for the party to enter the Hellenic Parliament for the first time with 21 seats. Following a second election in June, this was reduced slightly to 18 seats............
In 2010 Golden Dawn won 5.3 percent of the vote in Athens. In June 2011, Foreign Policy reported that in the midst of the 2010–2011 Greek protests, gangs of Golden Dawn members were increasingly being seen in some of the higher-crime areas of Athens. In May 2012, the BBC reported on how Golden Dawn had become sort of a local 'Robin Hood' in some high-immigration areas of Athens, since the party was developing a social program including the delivery of free or minimal cost food among the most unfavored strata of Greek citizens.

Life
QUOTE
Nikolaos G. Michaloliakos (Greek: Νικόλαος Γ. Μιχαλολιάκος, Greek pronunciation: [niˈkolaos mixaloˈʎakos]; born 11 December 1957) is the leader of Golden Dawn, a Greek right-wing extremist party.
Michaloliakos was born in Athens in 1957. Ηe completed his studies at the Faculty of Mathematics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.[1]At the age of 16, he joined the nationalist 4th of August Party of Konstantinos Plevris. He also participated in the Athens local organisation of EOKA-B. He was arrested for the first time in July 1974, during a protest outside the British embassy in Athens, against the stance of the United Kingdom toward the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.[1] He was arrested again for assaulting journalists covering the December 1976 funeral of Evangelos Mallios, a policeman who tortured prisoners during the Regime of the Colonels, assassinated by the Revolutionary Organization 17 November, but was released due to technical issues related to his arrest.[1][2][3][4][5] While he was in prison, Michaloliakos met the leaders of the Greek military junta of 1967-1974.[1][2] After that he joined the Army and became a commando of the special forces.[1][2] He was arrested again in July 1978 after he had become a member of a far-right extremist group, and sentenced to one year imprisonment in January 1979 for illegally carrying guns and explosives.[2][3] He was also dismissed from his position in the army.[1]
After he was released, he launched the Chrysi Avgi (Greek for "Golden Dawn") magazine. The politics of the magazine were, at least initially, closely aligned with National Socialist beliefs.[2][3] The publication of the magazine ceased in April 1984, when Michaloliakos joined the National Political Union, and took over the leadership of its youth section, after a personal order of Georgios Papadopoulos.[1][2] In January 1985 he broke away from the National Political Union and founded the "Popular National Movement - Chrysi Avgi".
Michaloliakos remained the leader of Chrysi Avgi until he announced its disbandment in November 2005.[6] He took this step due to clashes with anti-fascists.[6] In 2005-2007 he (like most members of Chrysi Avgi) continued his political activity through the Patriotic Alliance.[2] The party was reformed under his leadership in 2007.[7]
Chrysi Avgi as a political party drew public attention in the 1990s and early 2000.[2][3] In May 2012, under Michaloliakos' leadership, it garnered 21 seats in Parliament during an election conducted amid Greece's severe fiscal crisis, and was embroiled in various controversies, attracting international attention and often, condemnation. [8] A particularly controversial point was Michaloliakos's denial of the existence of gas chambers during the Nazi atrocities of World War II.[9]
Imagine a United States where unemployment is 24 percent – 55 percent for
those under 25 – where wages have been cut and pensions and Social Security
slashed 30 percent, property and income taxes doubled, gasoline at $10 a
gallon, food prices rising, health insurance isn’t accepted by doctors and
drug stores, politicians and the rich are evading taxes and eating caviar
while you’re down to pink slime and cheap hot dogs. Now you know what many
Greeks are going through in a crushing economic crisis and the desperation
they feel.
Now imagine a political party comes along that attacks mainstream leaders
who have created a catastrophe, promises to rid America of Hispanics,
Asians, and other immigrants it blames on rising crime, hands out food to
the poor – whites only – and sets up blood banks – for whites only – and
says it will restore law and order and give the country back to you.
That’s how the neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party, populated by certifiable crazies,
including uneducated and unemployed thugs who resemble nothing so much as
soccer hooligans and have a collective single-digit IQ, has risen in Greece,
on a platform to either kick out or beat up all illegal immigrants and have
targeted gays and people with disabilities.
They’ve gained support quickly because Greece is inundated with immigrants
who want to seek asylum or use the country as a stepping-stone to other
European Union countries and has gotten little help from the EU – or from
its own government – until Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, smelling the
popularity of bashing immigrants, said he too wanted them out of the
country.
A recent government roundup of anyone who doesn’t look Greek netted 20,929
immigrants in a police dragnet through August, but after checking papers, it
turned out only 2,446 of them were illegal, about 11 percent, although there
could be hundreds of thousands who’ve gone into hiding since the sweep was
publicized.
But it played right into the hands of Golden Dawn, which has a dark vision,
and if it ever had enough influence it would put a shroud over the
plutocratic oligarchy that is Greece. Instead of rounding up immigrants, the
government should have corralled tax cheats who owe the country $70 billion
and who hide their money in secret Swiss and offshore bank accounts because
they’re a bigger threat.
Long regarded as a joke and lunatic fringe party led by a Neanderthal army
reject and two-time felon, Golden Dawn got only 0.29 percent of the vote in
the 2009 elections won by the PASOK Socialists with 44 percent. But now –
because of the unrelenting failure of PASOK and the New Democracy
Conservatives – has risen to 10-12 percent in polls. The party earned 18
seats in the Parliament in the June 17 elections with 6.97 percent and all
you have to do is look at the mugs of its members sitting there glowering to
fear what could happen to Greece if they ever gain power. Imagine the KKK
surpassing the Democrats or Republicans in the United States.
KICK ‘EM WHEN THEY’RE UP
Golden Dawn has overtaken PASOK, which has fallen to 8 percent and is
disappearing into the dust bin of history, while Samaras’ New Democracy is
bleeding support because of his unconditional surrender to international
lenders who want more pay cuts, tax hikes and slashed pensions aimed
primarily at workers, pensioners and the poor. The third partner in the
Three Stooges coalition, the tiny Democratic Left, whose leader Fotis
Kouvelis has betrayed his principles, is at about 4 percent, barely above
the 3 percent threshold needed to gain seats in Parliament for the next
elections that are coming soon to a ballot box near you once the Samaras
government fails.
When it does, Black Dawn will be positioned to gain even more seats and
rattle its sabres even louder; threatening the legacy of all Greeks who
fought Nazis tooth-and-nail in World War II and had always resisted
tyrannical leaders until now. Black Dawn is just a collection of bullies in
black shirts and so cowardly they gang up on immigrants because they couldn’t
face them one-on-one. Illegal immigrants should be identified and deported,
but not beaten.
But it’s the fault of New Democracy and PASOK that the black shirts are
where they are today because politics abhors a vacuum and the Nazis stepped
in when the failed government made people desperate enough to turn to an
extremist hate group.
While Samaras has, by his silence, given implicit support to Black Dawn – as
have the police, some 50 percent of whom were said to have voted for the
party and like delegating authority to vigilantes on motorcycles – it’s been
left to Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias to take them on, and he
correctly identified them as wannabe-“storm troopers.” After some party
members were seen leading assaults on immigrants, he yanked their police
bodyguards – one of whom has been charged with aiding in the attacks so you
know where the police sentiment lies.
U VILL DO VUT I SAY!
It’s a little hard to understand him when he speaks in between his shouting
and spitting on on himself, but Black Dawn leader Nikos “Little Hitler”
Michaloliakos, the David Duke of Greece, has threatened to unleash his
forces on the country he professes to love, and which he serves so badly.
That’s what happens to these little men with Napoleon complexes when they
get any power, and it’s Samaras and PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos who
gave it to him.
Members of Parliament have immunity for all crimes, including treason it now
seems, but so detested are these reprehensible cretins that other lawmakers
are ready to strip them of that protection, even as Little Hitler said he
cared little for the Parliament in which he sits and would love to overthrow
with a putsch if he could, and follow that with a purge of immigrants,
intellectuals, imagined enemies, and anybody who couldn’t prove they were
descended from King Leonidas or Pericles.
All you need to know about Black Dawn is who they admire: Hitler, whose
venom-filled Mein Kampf is on display at party headquarters, and the Greek
dictator Ioannis Metaxas, whose statue they found discarded on the island of
Kefalonia, where he was raised. All that saved any shred of Metaxas’ legacy
was his famous “Oxi” to Mussolini, giving his fellow dictator the big “No”
when asked to surrender, which is precisely what Samaras should say to
Michaloliakos.
If that doesn’t happen, we can always fall back on Woody Allen’s [ Jew and Paedophile ] line about
how to deal with these KKK-types, that “a brick through the window is better
than a harshly-worded letter.” Or column.
Golden Dawn Awakes In Greece [ 1 October 2012 ]

Greek police send crime victims to neo-Nazi 'protectors'
Far-right Golden Dawn party filling vacuum for those neglected by state after MPs elected to fight 'immigrant scum'
Greece's far-right Golden Dawn party is increasingly assuming the role of law enforcement officers on the streets of the bankrupt country, with mounting evidence that Athenians are being openly directed by police to seek help from the neo-Nazi group, analysts, [ left wing ] activists and lawyers say.In return, a growing number of Greek crime victims have come to see the party, whose symbol bears an uncanny resemblance to the swastika, as a "protector".
One victim of crime, an eloquent US-trained civil servant, told the Guardian of her family's shock at being referred to the party when her mother recently called the police following an incident involving Albanian immigrants in their downtown apartment block.
"They immediately said if it's an issue with immigrants go to Golden Dawn," said the 38-year-old, who fearing for her job and safety, spoke only on condition of anonymity. "We don't condone Golden Dawn but there is an acute social problem that has come with the breakdown of feeling of security among lower and middle class people in the urban centre," she said. "If the police and official mechanism can't deliver and there is no recourse to justice, then you have to turn to other maverick solutions.".........
Far from being tamed, parliamentary legitimacy appears only to have emboldened the extremists. In recent weeks racially-motivated attacks have proliferated. Immigrants have spoken of their fear of roaming the streets at night following a spate of attacks by black-clad men on motorbikes. Street vendors from Africa and Asia have also been targeted.
"For a lot of people in poorer neighbourhoods we are liberators," crowed Yiannis Lagos, one of 18 MPs from the stridently patriot "popular nationalist movement" to enter the 300-seat house in June. "The state does nothing," he told a TV chat show, adding that Golden Dawn was the only party that was helping Greeks, hit by record levels of poverty and unemployment, on the ground. Through an expansive social outreach programme, which also includes providing services to the elderly in crime-ridden areas, the group regularly distributes food and clothes parcels to the needy.

Golden Dawn Facing Trial In Greece [ 19 October 2014 ]
QUOTE
ATHENS, Greece — A prosecutor handling the criminal investigation of Greece’s Nazi-inspired, far-right Golden Dawn party on Thursday sought to have 70 party members, including the jailed party leader and all 17 of its other elected members of parliament, stand trial on charges ranging from running a criminal organization to murder and weapons offenses......Doyiakos added that the party sought to “violently confront foreigners, dissidents and anybody else it considered as a serious ideological opponent.”
Once marginal, the unabashedly nationalistic, Xenophobic and Anti-Semitic Golden Dawn erupted onto Greece’s political scene in recent years targeting voters disaffected by the country’s acute financial crisis and a wave of uncontrolled illegal immigration.

Malicious Prosecution Of Golden Dawn Is Failing To Make A Case [ 26 April 2018 ]
QUOTE
The ongoing trial of 18 members of the Greek parliament and 69 other senior figures in Greece’s famous “Golden Dawn” party—which has been ongoing in fits and starts since 2015, and followed the arrests of the accused in 2013—seems to be drawing to a close with the state having as yet failed to conclusively prove its main charge of conspiracy. The party—more correctly called Popular Association, Golden Dawn (“Laïkós Sýndesmos – Chrysí Avgí”)—won 7 percent of the vote in the 2012 elections, giving it 21 seats in the Greek Parliament, and making it that country’s third largest party.
Its unapologetically nationalist policies and symbolism immediately attracted the violent attention of the far left. Offices belonging to the party were bombed in December 2012 and February 2013.
In September 2013, a Greek Communist “anti-fascist” rapper by the name of Pavlos Fyssas was stabbed to death during a brawl with a Golden Dawn member by the name of Giorgios Roupakias.
Roupakias was arrested—but not before calling Golden Dawn’s head office, and speaking to party leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos. That telephone call—during which nothing was said which indicated that Michaloliakos either had foreknowledge of the stabbing or that he had ordered or endorsed it, was seized by the far left Greek government as primary “evidence” of a conspiracy.
Almost immediately, the state ordered police raids on the Golden Dawn leadership. Sixty-nine individuals, including all of Golden Dawn’s Parliamentary Group from the 2012 elections, were arrested and held for periods of as long as a year without being brought to trial.
Finally, in April 2015, they were charged and the court case began. The major accusation is based on Article 187 paragraph 1 of the Greek Criminal Code which is “participation in a criminal organization.”
According to Article 187, paragraph 1, a “criminal organization” is defined as a “structured and active group consisting of 3 or more persons (organization) and aims at committing more crimes, such as counterfeiting, robbery, extortion, violations related to explosive substances, etc.”
To prove this charge, the state has to show that the entire Golden Dawn leadership was aware of, actively participated in, or gave orders for criminal acts.
In addition, the group has been charged with three other offenses, namely the murder of Pavlos Fyssas; an assassination attempt on Abuzid Embarac, an Egyptian worker; and assassination attempts on members of the Greek Communist Party.
The attack on the Egyptian took place on June 12, 2012, when a gang of people attacked a house occupied by Egyptian invaders living in Greece. Although the men allegedly shouted that they were from Golden Dawn, there is no evidence showing any link between what seemed to be a local spontaneous attack and the party leadership.
The third charge relates to a September 2013 attack on twenty members of PAME, a Communist Party-affiliated trade union in Athens. The reds claimed that the attackers also claimed to be from Golden Dawn. Once again, there is no direct evidence to show that the party leadership had any foreknowledge, involvement in planning, or endorsed this attack.
The defendants argue the perpetrators bear sole responsibility for their actions, and that it is nothing but political victimization to blame the entire party.
The “evidence” presented by the state has consisted of two main prongs: firstly, tapped telephone and text messages between party leaders and members, and secondly, the “opinions” of groomed far left “experts” who all claim that the party has “a culture of violence.”
However, none of the “evidence” has actually linked the accused to any of the three specific incidents, or indeed to the main charge of a “criminal organization”—and now, as the trial draws to an end, it appears unlikely that the state will be able to prove their allegations after all.
Concern over the state’s poor case has ironically been leaked by Thanasis Kambagiannis, a prosecution lawyer, who told AlJazeera that “much of the evidence in the trial examines the relationship between the party and the police” (which does not prove any of the charges), and he expressed concern that an acquittal was possible.
“If they’re able to avoid being convicted in the trial, it means their whole project will be re-legitimized and will be able to restart,” Kambagiannis said.
It might yet be too early to predict an acquittal—which would be a significant boost to the party—as the Greek state is patently corrupt as shown by the political persecution of Golden Dawn in the first place—but so far, no convincing or damning evidence has yet come to light.
* In November 2013, Golden Dawn members Giorgos Fountoulis and Manos Kapelonis were shot dead outside the party’s offices in Neo Irakleio, a northern suburb of Athens, in a targeted assassination carried out by assassins on a motorcycle. Of course, the state has utterly neglected to make an arrest in this case, even though leftists have openly claimed responsibility.
UNQUOTE
You don't have to believe that the Greek Establishment is utterly corrupt but it is the way to bet. The judges might well be part of the conspiracy to break the Golden Dawn.
Golden Dawn Leaders Get 13 Years Prison Sentence [
QUOTE
As an addendum to Colin Liddell’s article, “Greece Turns Against Democracy,” this New York Times article indicates that although Gold Dawn has been destroyed, other parties are attempting to take its place. As the leader of one of the new parties, Nikos Michaliakos said, Greeks would remember Golden Dawn “when illegal immigrants are the majority in Greece, when they concede earth and water to Turkey, when millions of Greeks are unemployed on the streets.”* * *
An Athens court sentenced the leadership of Greece’s Golden Dawn party to 13 years in prison on Wednesday, a week after declaring the neo-fascist party a criminal organization in a landmark verdict that wrapped up one of the most important political trials in the country’s modern history.
Last week, the court convicted the party leaders of crimes related to a campaign of attacks against migrants and leftist critics in 2012 and 2013. At the end of a trial that lasted more than five years, the party was tied to a string of attacks, including the fatal stabbing in 2013 of a left-wing rapper, Pavlos Fyssas.
Giorgos Roupakias, a party member convicted of murdering Mr. Fyssas, received the harshest sentence, life plus 10 years. The court could still suspend some of the sentences.
The convictions were widely seen in Greece as a final blow to Golden Dawn, which failed to re-enter Parliament in general elections last year as the trial gradually eroded its popularity. And the outcome has already spurred political upheaval. …
