Seven senior male Oxfam
officials have been investigated over safeguarding allegations in the past
year, including sexual harassment and the covering up of exploitation. The seven men in question are working as
country directors in Africa, Asia and Latin America. A total of 37 country
directors are supervised by Oxfam GB.
These particular cases are among 87 sexual exploitation claims involving the charity's staff members in 2016 and 2017, compared to the 26 in the previous year. The Department for International Development (Dfid) is urging the NGO giant to investigate the allegations 'as a matter of urgency' after The Times brought them to light.
The Charity Commission is also looking into the claims. Those investigated will also include Oxfam's dismissal of Lesley Agams in 2011, when she was its country director in Nigeria, three months after the 51-year-old confessed she was sexually assaulted by a senior official.............
The most up-to-date accounts available for
Oxfam, for the year 2015-16, show it received £200million from the UK
Government and £115million in public donations.

Oxfam said it compiled a report after an inquiry into allegations of sexual exploitation, the downloading of pornography, bullying and intimidation. The newspaper said the confidential report implied children may have been among those sexually exploited by aid workers, although Oxfam said these were "not proven".
None of those accused has been arrested or faced any criminal
charges. However, the newspaper reported that executives
at the time avoided sacking one of them over fears it could have
"serious implications" for the charity's work.

A survey on racial justice – says that "white privilege" is a by-product of a racist system and that racism is "a power construct created by white nations for the benefit of white people”.
The document goes on to say anti-black racism is 'the most harmful and insidious of racism' and that the charity "does not recognise reverse racism". Some staff have been angered by the voluntary survey, which they say is divisive, the Times reports.
Oxfam's staff is 88% white, and the proportion of ethnic minority employees
fell from 16% in 2019 to 11.8% in 2020

Oxfam apologised for the English language this week, describing it as ‘the
language of a colonising nation’. It also counselled against using the words
‘mother’ and ‘father’ because they ascribed ‘gendered roles’.
Thus, in this charity’s right-on eyes, has the language of Shakespeare (hiss) and Churchill (boo) — the most successful language the world has ever known — become a matter for regret and embarrassment, while simple, clear words that have stood the test of time are to be abandoned. Oxfam says it’s only offering guidance not prescription. Fair enough. But I wouldn’t fancy the career chances of any Oxfam staffer who cared to flout it.
Oxfam has come a long way since it was founded 81 years ago. There was a time in the dim and distant past when its primary purpose was to raise money from well-meaning, relatively affluent folks and use their donations to assuage the hunger pangs of the poor and downtrodden across the globe. It was a worthy cause.
Those days are long over. For some time now it’s been more associated with Left-wing agitprop than famine relief. Indeed, you almost get the impression feeding the famished is now seen by some in Oxfam as an annoying diversion from the far more important work of political activism.
Hence all the effort that’s gone into its
92-page ‘Inclusive
Language Guide’. It won’t fill a single empty belly but it will sure
warm the cockles of its increasingly woke staff, with its insightful
injunctions to avoid using words like headquarters (‘implies a colonial
power dynamic’), aid sector (‘cements’ idea of those with ‘resources’ giving
‘charitable aid’ — which I stupidly thought was the founding mission of
Oxfam) and, incredibly, field trips (‘reinforces colonial attitudes’).
