What happened? As The Washington Post reported Monday:
“Authorities in cities from coast to coast mobilized a military-style defense of state capitol complexes on Sunday, rolling out Humvees, concertina wire and thousands of National Guard troops clad in battlefield helmets to defend against a possible onslaught of rioters whipped up by the baseless claims of the American president.
“The assault never came. Despite warnings from the FBI and boasts from armed, far-right extremist groups, security forces in every instance outnumbered scattered groups of demonstrators, and there were no reports of violence.”
In anticipation of Wednesday’s inauguration, 25,000 National Guard have been deployed in and around D.C. to defend against right-wing mobs or would-be assassins. Three or four times as many troops are here in D.C. as there are U.S. troops in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria combined.
Now, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And better too much security than not enough. But even given the Jan. 6 outrage, to arm our capital city as though Stonewall Jackson’s Confederates were going to march up Manassas Road and capture Abe Lincoln after the Union defeat at Bull Run seems a bit excessive.
Yet, Wednesday is a historic day. Trump will be gone from the White House and national power and responsibility will pass to the Democratic Party.
Democrats take over the House, Senate and White House. Virtually all major media will be in their camp. They will be welcomed in a city that has never elected a Republican mayor and has no Republicans on the city council, a city that voted for Joe Biden 18-1 over Trump. The 30,000 registered Republicans in D.C. are outnumbered 12-1 by Democrats.
The government bureaucracies here are as deeply Democratic as the “deep state” that bedeviled Trump for four years. Biden’s Cabinet is the most racially and ethnically diverse ever; the majority of its members are women and people of color. Obama administration holdovers dominate the national security team.
Most of America’s major cities — New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, D.C., Baltimore, Detroit, St. Louis — are run by liberal Democrats, and, coincidentally, all experienced surges in shootings and killings in 2020.
While the figures on the criminal perpetrators are rarely reported, it appears that not a great many of the violent and lethal crimes were the work of rogue cops or white supremacists in MAGA hats.
Other problems Trump failed to solve — the pandemic now killing 3,000 to 4,000 Americans a day, the failure to get vaccines into the arms of millions of more Americans — are now Joe’s problems.
Calling Trump names will no longer cut it.
Now, Democrats must decide whether to proceed with the impeachment trial of Trump for inciting a riot that began on the Capitol steps as he was speaking a mile away, a riot planned long before the rally on the Mall.
Now, Democrats can choose whether they will forego extracting their pound of flesh as the first order of business in the Senate and let Nancy Pelosi sit a while on her impeachment resolution.
Now, Democrats have it all. If they wish, they can abolish the filibuster, pack the Supreme Court, make D.C. and Puerto Rico states, forgive all student debt, and vote for slavery reparations.
One reads that a caravan of thousands is forming up in Honduras to pass through Guatemala in the hope of reaching and crossing the U.S. border when Biden becomes president.
That, too, is Joe’s party’s problem now.

Our heroine is 38 years old, a veteran of the military, and the sort of capable, sensible, and principled woman everyone wants as a friend or neighbor. Her name is Jessica Watkins.
How capable and principled is she? Well, “in late 2019,” Ms. Watkins “set up a small self-styled militia her boyfriend says she created to help neighbors if tornadoes hit.” Since then, “the ‘Ohio State Regular Militia’ has patrolled 12 protests in total to ‘protect people’ and treat injuries to Black Lives Matter activists or MAGA types alike, [Ms. Watkins] said. … When Louisville[, Kentucky] responded in outcry after a grand jury failed to indict any officers in the death of Breonna Taylor [sic for ‘When riots rocked Louisville’], OSRM was there, as they were for protests [sic for ‘riots’] in Cleveland, Columbus and Pickerington as well as a ‘MAGA Caravan’ in Champaign County. …”
Jessica Watkins and OSRM headed to Mordor earlier this month as did a million or more other Patriots. And she was near enough to the Capitol to enter with the crowd. “She described the scene inside the building as ‘patriotic’ and rife with ‘USA! USA!’ chants until it devolved into carnage and chaos.
‘To me, it was the most beautiful thing I ever saw until we started hearing glass smash,’ she said. ‘That’s when we knew things had gotten really bad.’
“She had a mixed take on events. She said it was a peaceful protest that turned violent. Antifa perhaps infiltrated the crowd to agitate the mob, she claimed without evidence.” Yeah, right: no evidence at all.
Jessica also “dismissed characterizations of the riots [sic] as insurrectionist or violent as media spin.” Told you the lady is sensible. “She said she and several other militia members who she entered the complex with saw the invaders marveling at the art and architecture of the Capitol like tourists...
“The police, she said, sent mixed signals. Inside the Capitol, she said she personally witnessed them offering directions to the invaders and giving no warning signs of improper conduct.”
Your Intrepid Reporter has explored innumerable historic homes and “national monuments,” including such “working” ones as Faneuil Hall in Boston. Without guidance, it’s easy to stray into prohibited areas—particularly when cops are motioning to and opening gates for visitors to entrap them.
No wonder Ms. Watkins insists, “I didn’t commit a crime. I didn’t destroy anything. I didn’t wreck anything. If they want to charge me, that’s fine…”
She also testified on social media, “We never smashed anything, stole anything, burned anything, and truthfully we were very respectful with Capitol Hill PD until they attacked us … Then we stood our ground and drew the line.”
The FBI considers that statement incriminating. Yep: that’s the weakness of their case against this Patriot. And who wouldn’t have reacted as she did? There you are, entering the Capitol at officers’ behest, gawking at the luxury your taxes buy in a site open to tourists—when suddenly, the welcoming cops turn hostile. Do you hold your position, especially when you’ve done nothing wrong? Or do you bolt like a rabbit?
While cops assaulted Ms. Watkins and her fellow Patriots, Seniles and Reprehensibles in their respective chambers either fled or dove for the floor in fear for their worthless hides. And therein lies the Patriots’ “crime”: they showed Our Rulers for the gutless wonders that they are. No pomp and pageantry here, just cowering curs terrified they’ll finally meet with the horsewhipping they so entirely deserve. These wusses became global laughingstocks as pictures of their humiliation sped around the world.
Ought we to marvel, then, that “FBI agents turned up early one morning [sic, no doubt, for the middle of the night] to arrest [Ms. Watkins] for her alleged role in the January 6 insurrection [sic]. ‘We could hear so many sirens. And then we heard them yelling for her to come downstairs with her hands up and she did not,’ said Emma Dixon, who witnessed the pre-dawn [I’m right again!] raid from a home across the street. …”
Ms. Watkins didn’t come down because she “was not there. Her boyfriend, Montana Siniff was. He told CNN disorientating flash-bangs were used. A window was broken. It remained that way days later. …” I’ll bet the Feds never do pay for the damage.
Convinced that she had prevented, not committed, crimes, Ms. Watkins turned herself in. She now molders in the Montgomery County Jail near Dayton, Ohio, 50 miles from her home. Her betrothed, Montana Siniff, who describes himself as “an avid lewrockwell reader,” tells me that Jessica “is in solitary right now (for ‘safety’) …”
Of course. Because a woman who challenged the State is in mortal danger from inmates that State cages.
Mr. Siniff continues: “…they are denying Jess medical attention (a simple splint for an arm that was broken before the 6th), laundry, and recreational time because of ‘non-compliance’” with orders she couldn’t hear thanks to “faulty electronic equipment…”
The Montgomery County Jail confines another member of the Ohio State Regular Militia in solitary, too, on the same bogus charges as Jessica. Mr. Siniff reports that while he hasn’t yet spoken with his friend, Donovan Crowl, “from what he has written he is getting similar treatment. [He and Ms. Watkins] are both only ever allowed out for their phone call after 10 PM, whilst [authorities tell] them a lawyer needs to contact them, not the other way around.” To that end, Mr. Siniff has “set up rallypay accounts for their legal defense and bail:

Pentagon and DHS Announce More Destroyed January 6 Phone Records
The Pentagon has
joined the Department of Homeland Security in destroying potential evidence
related to the January 6 Capitol attack. Open government organization
American Oversight posted court records related to its FOIA lawsuit for DoD
January 6 records on its website, and the records indicate that the Pentagon
“wiped” government-issued phones for senior officials that were in charge of
mobilizing the National Guard’s response to the insurrection. The
Washington Post reports that the erasure impacts the phone records of
numerous senior officials, including then-acting defense secretary
Christopher C. Miller and then-Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy.
The court records indicate [ say/claim/allege ] that the erasure is in keeping with DoD and Army policy for employees who have left the agency. An investigation of the Pentagon’s records retention schedules will help verify this claim, which, if true, is an egregious oversight that may impact the January 6 committee’s investigation. It would also put further pressure on the National Archives and Records Administration to do a more thorough job vetting agency records retention schedules.

DOJ Sues Ex-Trump Adviser Over Presidential Records:
The Justice Department is suing ex-Trump aide Peter Navarro
over his refusal to turn over presidential records. The suit, brought on
behalf of the National Archives, alleges that Navarro used personal email to
conduct government business and “is wrongfully retaining Presidential
records that are the property of the United States, and which constitute
part of the permanent historical record of the prior administration.”

The May 19th Communist Organization, also variously referred to as
the May 19 Coalition, May 19 Communist Coalition, and various
alternatives of M19CO, was a US-based organization formed by members
of the
Weather Underground Organization. The group was originally known as the
New York chapter of the
Prairie Fire Organizing Committee (PFOC), an organization devoted to
promoting the causes of the Weather Underground legally, as part of the
Prairie Fire Manifesto's change in Weather Underground Organization
strategy, which demanded both aboveground mass movements and clandestine
organizations. The role of the clandestine organization would be to build
the "consciousness of action" and prepare the way for the development of a
people's militia. Concurrently, the role of the mass movement, the
above-ground Prairie Fire Collective, would include the support for and the
encouragement of armed action. Such an alliance would, according to Weather,
"help create the 'sea' for the guerrillas to swim in."[1]
The M19CO name was derived from the birthdays of
Ho
Chi Minh and
Malcolm
X.[2]
The May 19 Communist Organization was active from 1978 to 1985. M19CO was a
combination of the
Black Liberation Army and the Weather Underground. It also included
members of the
Black Panthers and the
Republic of New Africa (RNA).[3][4]
In addition to the May 19th Communist Organization being made up of the Black Liberation Army, the group was formed because of infighting in the Weather Underground Organization.[5] Following the split of the Weather Underground Organization into factions, the faction that favored more extreme actions to achieve its objectives joined the Black Liberation Army, forming the May 19th Communist Organization. One of the founders, Laura Whitehorn, was also part of the Weather Underground Organization's predecessor, the Students for a Democratic Society. In addition to being known as the May 19th Communist Organization and the New York chapter of the Prairie Fire Organizing Committee, the group was also known as the Armed Resistance Movement, the Red Guerilla Resistance, Resistance Conspiracy, and Revolutionary Fighting Group.[6] Despite these other monikers, the group was most popularly known as the May 19th Communist Organization, predicated on the Communist Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh's birthday.[7]
Members of the May 19th Communist Organization, even when showing support for the group's goals of ridding the United States of racism, police brutality, and insufficient public housing, were often accused of not being fervent enough about the causes that the group pursued.
Operations
From 1982 to 1985 M19CO committed a series of bombings, including
bombings of the
National War College, the
Washington Navy Yard Computing Center, the
Israeli Aircraft Industries Building, New York City's
South African consulate, the Washington Navy Yard Officers' Club, New
York City's Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, and the
United States Capitol Building. Three officers were killed during the
Brinks Robbery, but no one was injured or killed in their bombings.[10]
Almost all the M19CO members were convicted in a US Court of Law for these
offenses, but
Elizabeth Ann Duke remains at large.

Left to call conservatives rioters, justified yet more repression, and forced

Instead, in addition to warning them, “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” he told them to “please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement,” “stay peaceful,” and then, finally, “go home with love & in peace.” Social media banned him, convicting him of the very charges for which the Senate acquitted him.
Was this an insurrection? We have prosecutions and even a few convictions for “seditious conspiracy,” but no level-headed person can possibly believe that the rioters who broke into the Capitol were part of plan to overthrow the United States government..........

should have been given this footage before he pled guilty to
obstructing a congressional proceeding and got 41 months in prison.
The right of a defendant to see all the evidence — both good and bad
— is fundamental to the American system. Andrew McCarthy
wrote at National Review that Mr. Chansley’s attorneys
would have “insisted on being shown any potentially exculpatory
evidence prior to the guilty plea.” However, they
probably couldn’t. His counsel didn’t know about the tapes,
which were in the possession of Congress. The Justice Department
could have said it didn’t have them and couldn’t produce them. “So
Committee members and counsel buried footage that was clearly
relevant to literally hundreds of people facing criminal sentencing
across the country,” says legal analyst Jonathan Turley. “They did
this while repeatedly referencing those cases in hearings as
upholding the rule of law.”.......
